School Based Health Centers (SBHC)

CIFC Health School Based Health Centers (SBHC) are clinics staffed by licensed providers inside the school, minimizing the barriers to accessing timely health care faced by many children. Any student enrolled in the school have the opportunity to receive confidential health services where they spend the majority of their time.
     ■ All services are confidential and Enrollment in the SBHC is offered to every student in the schools, regardless of their ability to pay.
     ■ SBHC is accessible to all students enrolled in the schools including children and youth with special health care needs.

A school based health center is not the same as the school nurse's office. School nurses and SBHCs work together, and school nurses often refer students to SBHCs because they are able to treat and resolve student health problems. All SBHC services are confidential. Parents must sign a Parent Permission Form for students to receive services. SBHCs are also able to bill Medicaid and HUSKY A & B health maintenance organizations for services provided to students covered by these health plans.
